Money in the Bank 2020 Predictions
The risk is worth the reward. The most unique Money in the Bank ladder match will take place at WWE Corporate Headquarters. WWE Champion Drew McIntyre takes on Seth Rollins and Universal Champion Braun Strowman battles his former demon Bray Wyatt.
The Women's division will also have a showing of their own with Bayley taking on Tamina for the Smackdown WWE Women’s Championship. Tag Team action will also be in full effect as The New Day defend their titles against Miz & Morrison, The Forgotten Sons and Lucha House Party.
The Money in the Bank ladder match for both men and women will take place simultaneously. The competitors for men are Daniel Bryan, Rey Mysterio, Alister Black, Otis, King Corbin and AJ Styles. The competitors for the women are Asuka, Shayna Baszler, Nia Jax, Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans and Carmella.
Here are my predictions.
The New Day (C) VS Miz & Morrison VS Lucha House Party VS The Forgotten Sons- Smackdown Tag Team Championships
The build for this match has lasted since Big E’s victory over The Miz and Jey Uso for the championships in mid-April. Confrontations the next few weeks on Smackdown saw The New Day lose matches to The Forgotten Sons and get pummeled in the process. Miz & Morrison lost a match to Lucha House Party in this build, this made The Miz look like the weak link of their tag team.
I think The Forgotten Sons have a good shot at winning this one. Taking the belts off the New Day and retaining until Xavier Woods can return to action would see some great 3 on 3 bouts down the line. Lucha House Party isn’t ready yet and a dissension between Miz & Morrison could be closing in for great singles rivalry.
The Forgotten Sons have been strong in their short stint on the main roster and dirty victory with interference by Ryker could get them over as champions.
Bayler (C) VS Tamina - Smackdown’s Women’s Championship
This match came to be after Tamina beat Bayley’s best friend Sasha Banks after Bayley put a title shot on the line if Tamina won. Bayley and Banks' relationship has been shaky, however, ever since Bayley cost Banks her Money in the Bank ladder match opportunity. Tamina has consistently been involved with all of Bayley’s TV time, climaxing when Tamina super kicked Bayley after Banks lost to Lacey Evans.
If Sasha Banks is ringside for this match, I see Tamina taking the belt after Banks costs Bayley the match. If Banks isn’t ringside, then Bayley wins clean, no questions about it. I couldn’t tell you the last we’ve seen Bayley fight a singles match so a victory by her could reestablish her dominance.
If Banks is ringside and costs Bayley the belt, this should be the final blow to their relationship. This should lead to a match at Summerslam for the Belt assuming either Banks or Bayley wins it at Extreme Rules.
Braun Strowman (C) VS Bray Wyatt - Universal Championship
Bray Wyatt has been trying to regain the Universal Championship ever since he lost it to Goldberg at Super Showdown. Braun Strowman won the title from Goldberg back at Wrestlemania after Roman Reigns dropped out due to COVID-19 concerns.
Wyatt throughout the build towards Money in the Bank has asked Strowman multiple times to join him again. Wyatt has even gone the distance to offer Strowman the black sheep mask that Strowman wore back in his days with the Wyatt Family.
I think Braun Strowman takes this one clean. I don’t think it is going to be a fast match but should show some weakness in Bray Wyatt. We need to remember that Bray Wyatt is fighting this match, not The Fiend.
The rematch should come at Extreme Rules with The Fiend finishing the job Bray Wyatt couldn’t complete. A dream match of Bray Wyatt vs The Fiend in a Firefly Fun House match at Wrestlemania could shock the world. Someone slap me, my Vince Russo is coming out again.
Drew McIntyre (C) vs Seth Rollins - WWE Championship
The Monday Night Messiah has had his eyes set on the WWE Championship since Drew McIntyre’s victory at Wrestlemania over Brock Lesnar. Rollins has continued week in and week out to insult the leadership of McIntyre. Rollins doesn’t want to do this to McIntyre, but he feels like he has to in order restore the belt to its true home.
The fighting champion Drew McIntyre has not shied away from the squared circle throughout his stint as champion, fighting almost every week in the past month.
I’m usually not a betting man but I would put some money down on McIntyre retaining. McIntyre is being pushed to the moon and now with the absence of Roman Reigns, Goldberg and other marquee talents to pad the roster McIntyre should be the guy for the foreseeable future.
I’m not predicting a squash match but McIntyre should win clean.
Asuka vs Shayna Baszler vs Nia Jax vs Dana Brooke vs Lacey Evans vs Carmella - Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match
All six of these women have been pushed well due to the qualifying matches to earn the position. Asuka, Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax have all had their beef between each other after brutalities committed by each of them. Lacey Evans earned her spot after beating Sasha Bank after interference by Bayley. Both Dana Brooke and Carmella booked their ticket to Money in the Bank with Qualifying victories of their own.
The Money in the Bank ladder match winner will confront Becky Lynch on Raw. Thus giving the impression at the winner is going to be Raw talent. All three of the Raw competitors have a legitimate shot. Asuka is more over than ever as a face, Shayna Baszler in my eyes was an anti-hero against Becky Lynch at Wrestlemania (disregard the biting). This only leaves Nia Jax as the true heel that could use the Money in the Bank briefcase as a heel prop.
I’m not happy with this but it is the only one that makes the most sense given WWE’s relentless effort to get Jax over.
Daniel Bryan vs Rey Mysterio vs Aleister Black vs King Corbin vs Otis vs AJ Styles - Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Similar to the women, qualifying matches took place for the build-up to Money in the Bank. The feud between Daniel Bryan and King Corbin is hot while Rey Mysterio and Aleister Black look to exact revenge on AJ Styles after what he said on the go-home Raw for Money in the Bank.
Apollo Crews originally was involved in this match but was taken out with a kayfabe leg injury in his bout against Andrade for the US Championship. The Last Chance Gauntlet Match to determine the final qualifier for the Money in the Bank ladder match brought in AJ Styles who was buried alive at Wrestlemania by the Undertaker.
This is a tough one. One prediction I can make for sure is that Rey Mysterio gets thrown off the top of WWE Headquarters as his contract expires in September. Daniel Bryan is too face to win and the same goes for Otis. AJ Styles and King Corbin the two true heels both have a shot. Corbin stood tall after the go-home Smackdown with the briefcase in hand. AJ Styles provides the star power necessary for this match but was rushed back into the spotlight after being buried alive so I doubt the briefcase goes to him.
Aleister Black is my pick for this match. WWE has emphasized how they need to make new stars in times like this and Black could be the guy for them. Raw has needed a mysterious figure since the American Badass turn of the Undertaker. Black can provide the darkness necessary with the skill and star power to back it up. King Corbin is the safe pick but two heels winning simultaneously are unlikely.
